Tim Horrox
I have had had a lifelong passion for the art and science of photography – and how images can tell a story.
My first real job was as an assistant for a top London commercial photographer who had set up a large ‘out of town’ studio in Marlow, full of lights and cameras, from 10”x8” and 5”x4” plate cameras to 35mm. This enabled me to develop a photographic discipline and working with a range of very experienced photographers was a great grounding.
In the early '80s I moved into the very specific world of 35mm photography for multi-vision slide shows and was lucky enough to travel to some far away places and produce work for a wide range of clients. Moving into the world of video in the late '80s and through the ‘90s, and bringing up a family, meant that my involvement with stills photography was limited to commissioning others.
In the early 2000s I set up HMX, which became a Top 50 corporate production agency, serving many multinational clients.
Having sold the business in 2018, I have now returned to my passion for stills photography – and I’m still learning.
It is true to say that every picture you take teaches you something; about light, about colour, about form, but in my case it’s mostly about patience. And I’m very bad at learning to slow down!
