This week's meeting
The talk by Kevin Mitchell has been postponed until January. Instead, we have a workshop evening: Phil Taylor will demonstrate the advantages of the Affinity processing software, followed by David Chedgy doing likewise for On1 Photo Raw. In addition, Phil has had a tremendous idea which he will present to members at the start of the evening. As a teaser, what he is proposing is a completely new venture, and one which may well appeal to members who (like me) are less confident in their photographic skills - come and listen! Competition hand-in date Remember that midnight on Friday is the deadline for submissions for our next competition, digital, on the theme of Travel and Places (see https://www.fromewessexcameraclub.com/2018-19-set-subjects.html for the definition). One of the highlights of the year! Our three eminent Salon selectors will be talking about and showing us their work. Come along and cheer on the troops - it is always an enjoyable evening. Congratulations to them all. A Request for Stourhead Images from John Parfitt : "I’m looking for approximately 5 images of Stourhead. The brief is for different seasons and showing iconic features. The resolution must be such as to be capable of being printed at approximately A1. They will be hung in a prestigious location which I’m not able to disclose until after the selection is made. There will be little or no licence fee but where they will be hung should be reward enough – it would look good on a photographer’s CV. If there is an interest, could they email me a low res version of the image to (john@thebetterpicture.com), with the subject Stourhead Images 2018." A Request for Professional Portraits Joy Osborn is a professional model living in Frome. She needs to update her portfolio, and is suggesting a win-win arrangement. She says: "The ideal situation would be if there is no fee either way – i.e. that I get some great new photos for my portfolio and for my agencies to include on their websites, and for the photographer to gain something for their own use. My portfolio with both Source and Mustard is now about two years old so needs an update. If there is a photographer in your membership who might be interested, I’d be very happy to meet informally to explore the possibility of a shoot – when we can both share the sort of work we have done to date and decide whether this would be a mutually beneficial opportunity." If you'd like to contact Joy, please do so direct on [email protected]. Paper Offer Chas Hasley, a stall-holder at the Camera Fair on Sunday, has contacted Loveday to offer Epson packs and the Nova Jet Pro packs of inkjet paper at special rates. His list is quite long, so I am forwarding his e-mail separately. Please let him know direct if you'd like some. A Date to Look Forward To Declan Burge at the Cheese and Grain e-mails to say that the wildlife TV cameraman and presenter Gordon Buchanan (Family and Me, Planet Earth 2, Animals with Cameras). The evening will give audiences an opportunity to hear personal recollections of Gordon's globe-trotting travels as he delves into his world of weird, wild and wonderful wildlife, all illustrated with his own film footage and photography.
